Stephen Jackson Gets Real On Expectations For Jaylen Brown After Signing $304 Million Supermax Contract

Star Jaylen Brown is one of the best players in the league, and he showed his talent last season, making the All-NBA Second Team with the Boston Celtics. He subsequently signed a five-year, $304 million supermax contract with the team this offseason. There is no doubt that many expect great things from Brown after he signed the richest deal in NBA history.

With that being said, the sort of expectations that should be placed on Brown are unclear, and Stephen Jackson recently pointed out that there are a lot of players who made big money and didn’t live up to the hype.

“It’s hard to set expectations when you got so many players that got good money. That ain’t done s**t…. Otto Porter, where he at? He got $100M in Washington and we haven’t seen him since.”

This past season, Jaylen Brown averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for the Celtics. It will be interesting to see what sort of numbers he puts up next season, as the Celtics added two quality offensive players to the team this summer in Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. Even if his numbers do drop, it is quite likely that Brown will still provide a big impact for the team on both ends of the floor.

Jaylen Brown’s Supermax Contract Shouldn’t Concern The Celtics

“If Boston didn’t have the kind of team that could win now, you might have to think twice about what you offer a Jaylen Brown,” The GM said. “But from everything we’ve seen about him and know, he’s not the kind of person you have to worry about. It looks like he’s invested in the team and not just his stats. That’s more important than people realize when it comes to how a guy’s new contract sits with the rest of the guys in the room.”

It is clear that Brown is a player who is focused on winning, and he was a key part of the team’s appearance in the 2022 NBA Finals. Hopefully, we will see him take another step forward for the team, and help Jayson Tatum win a championship.

The Expectation For Jaylen Brown Should Be An All-NBA Season

Of course, there is a chance that Brown will get even better going forward. That would put him in a near-MVP realm, and the Celtics will hope that this is what ends up happening.

It will be interesting to see how Jaylen Brown does this season. Ultimately, if the Celtics win a championship, the supermax contract will be justified, and there’s a good chance of that happening this season.
