We are talking about a very strange discovery that was made in Central America a few decades ago — a huge stone head was unearthed deep in the jungles of Guatemala. With beautiful features, thin lips, and a large nose, the stone’s face was turned towards the sky.

The face displayed peculiarly Caucasian characteristics that did not correspond to any of the pre-Hispanic races that were native to the Americas. The finding attracted a lot of attention right away, but just as quickly, it fell off the radar and was lost to the annals of history.
In 1987, Dr. Oscar Rafael Padilla Lara, a doctor of philosophy, lawyer, and notary, received a photograph of the head along with a description that it was discovered “somewhere in the jungles of Guatemala” and that the photo was taken in the 1950s by the owner of the land where it was found. This is when the discovery was first made public.
The photo and story had been published in a small article by renowned explorer and author David Hatcher Childress.
Childress was able to trace Dr. Padilla, who reported that he had found the Biener family, the owners of the property where the stone head was discovered. Childress then tracked down the family. The estate was located 10 kilometres away from a tiny community in La Democracia, which is situated in the southern region of Guatemala.
However, Dr. Padilla stated that he was in despair when he reached the site and witnessed that it had been destroyed. “The stone head was destroyed by anti-government rebels about ten years ago; His eyes, nose and mouth were completely gone.” Padilla never returned to the region due to armed attacks between government forces and rebel forces in the region.
Destruction of the head; meant that the story ended in a quick death, until the filmmakers of “Revelations of the Mayans: 2012 and Beyond” used the photograph to claim that extraterrestrials had made contact with past civilizations.
The maker published a document written by Guatemalan archaeologist Hector E Majia:
But this broadcast had only the opposite effect, putting the whole story in the hands of a rightly skeptical audience who thought the whole thing was just a promotional show.
However, there seems to be no evidence that the giant head didn’t exist and that the original photo is not real or that Dr. Padilla’s account is inaccurate. Assuming the stone head is real, we can ask the following questions: Where did it come from? Who did this? And why?
The area where the stone head is reported to have been found, La Democracia, is already famous for its stone heads that look up to the sky, as well as the stone head actually found in the forest. It is known that these were created by the Olmec civilization, which flourished between 1400 and 400 BC.
However, the stone head depicted in the 1950s photograph does not share the same features or style as the Olmec heads did.

Other questions raised included whether the structure was just a head or if it housed a corpse beneath it, similar to the Easter Island statues, and whether the stone head was connected to any of other structures in the vicinity.
It would be wonderful to have the answers to these intriguing questions, but sadly, the attention that hugely surrounded the movie “Revelations of the Mayans: 2012 and Beyond” contributed to bury the subject even deeper into the pages of history.
We can only hope that some intrepid explorer gets the story once again and decides to dig more into the mystery of this enigmatic ancient structure.
