Towards Messi: Suárez Departs Gremio in Brazil, Set to Join Tata Martino’s Inter Miami for the 2024 Season

The story of Luis Suárez in Brazil has come to an end in style. The Uruguay international closes a successful chapter in his career ahead of his move to the United States. Such was his impact on the Gremio faithful that dozens of fans turned out to bid farewell to their idol in the vicinity of Porto Alegre’s Salgado Filho International Airport.

Love for Suárez

“I want to thank the Brazilian people for the love I received, it was very important for me and my family,” Suárez said at Gremio’s trophy ceremony about the love the club’s fans showed him from day one. Suárez has needed less than twelve months to become living Brazilian soccer history.

Joining Inter Miami

With a million-dollar contract in place, Suárez signed for two years with Gremio, although an agreement was reached in the summer to end his deal so he could leave on a free transfer in December and join Inter Miami. He leaves Brazil with 29 goals and 17 assists in 53 games in all competitions, enough to leave an incredible legacy in a country that now adores him.

New life in Miami

Suárez will now have a few days’ holiday before returning to the pitch. In the absence of official confirmation, Inter Miami will be his next club, with the MLS side set to sign him on a one-year deal with the option for a second year depending on how his knee responds.
