This gives a new meaning to penny-pinching.
A 73-year-old Louisiana man reportedly deposited over $5,000 in pennies he’d saved for 45 years so he could pay a dental bill.
Otha Anders, of Ruston, made the $5,136.14 deposit at Ruston Origin Bank, The News-Star reported.

The pennies were brought in off a truck by Anders, bank workers, and Anders’ loved ones, the News-Star reported.
Jennie Cole, the bank’s vice president, told The News-Star that a machine was used to tally up the pennies.
She said: ‘Anders will inform us on where he wants the cashed-in money to be placed.’

Anders told the newspaper: ‘I would never spend a penny.
‘I would break a dollar before giving up a penny.’

He told the News-Star: ‘If I was at someone’s house and I found a penny, I would pick it up and I would keep it.
‘I will always tell the person that if it was a quarter, I would give it back, but since it is a penny, I’m keeping it.’
The News-Star reported Anders deposited his pennies, because they’re not covered by his homeowner’s insurance.
The newspaper said Anders began to save the one-cent coins 45 years ago, after he noticed a penny on the ground.
Anders told The News-Star: ‘I became convinced that spotting a lost or dropped penny was an additional God-given incentive reminding me to always be thankful.
‘There have been days where I failed to pray and more often than not, a lost or dropped penny would show up to remind me.’
