Draymond Green reveals what separates LeBron James and Stephen Curry from the rest of the league.
Warriors legend Draymond Green had a lot to say on All-Star weekend this year, and his first order of business was setting the record straight on some of the game’s all-time greats. According to Green, there are only two players in the league who have nothing left to prove: LeBron James and Stephen Curry.
“I say there’s two guys in the NBA who doesn’t have anything left to prove and that’s Steph and LeBron,” said Green. “They’re in another category.”
Historically, it’s rare for NBA superstars to extend their primes past the age of 35, but we are seeing that happen commonly nowadays with the likes of Kevin Durant and others. Steph and LeBron are obviously the highest bar for player longevity right now and it’s a miracle that they’re still playing like this after battling in four-straight Finals from 2015-2018.
When you talk about Steph, this season may not be going his way on the court or in the standings but his legacy is already set in stone as one of the greatest offensive players ever. As a 4x champion, 2x MVP, 10x All-Star, 9x All-NBA, and 2x scoring leader, Curry has earned his place among the greatest point guards in basketball history.
Meanwhile, for LeBron James, another championship would only be the icing on the cake for his career after such an amazing tenure. Over the past 20 years, James has dominated the league and he’s still going strong today as a 4x champion, 4x MVP, 20x All-Star, and 19x All-NBA player.
So when Draymond says that these guys have nothing left to prove, it’s hard to disagree with the statement. Even so, it’s Draymond who is taking drastic measures to win with the Warriors, even going so far as to try and recruit LeBron James himself to join Steph and the crew this season.
Draymond Green Tried To Bring LeBron And Curry Together
Draymond has made it clear during this All-Star break that he has a deep respect and admiration for not only Steph, Klay, and his Warriors teammates, but also LeBron James — his fellow Klutch Sports client. This summer, he used his connections to try and pull off the most unexpected star team-up in years.
According to multiple reports, the Warriors actually did engage the Lakers on a potential LeBron trade this season and it went all the way up to ownership before being shot down by LeBron and his agent, Rich Paul. We may never know the reason why James declined the opportunity, but it was a move that would have broken the NBA.
Ultimately, teaming up is probably the best and only way that those legends will win another championship before the end of their careers. But they have nothing more to prove as NBA professionals and they’ve accomplished pretty much everything under the sun.
This season, it will be interesting to see if James or Curry can lead their team on one last Finals push — and maybe we’ll get to see them face off in another Lakers/Warriors rematch. But regardless of what happens over the next few weeks, their legacy is already set and they aren’t going to waste any more time thinking about a trade that never happened.
