Arsenal has reduced the gap to leader Tottenham Hotspur to 2 points in the Premier League. The Londoners defeated last-place Sheffield United 5-0.
Eddie Nketiah scored the first three goals. After half an hour of play, the striker took the ball well in the penalty area after a pass from Declan Rice and finished calmly: 1-0. Shortly after the break, Nketiah responded thoughtfully with a shot into the top corner when goalkeeper Wes Foderingham failed to handle the ball properly after a corner.
Nketiah’s third goal was the best. In the 58th minute he shot the ball from well outside the penalty area into the top left corner (3-0). Shortly before the end, Portuguese substitute Fábio Vieira converted a penalty and then Japanese Takehiro Tomiyasu, also a substitute, also scored (5-0). Dutchman Gustavo Hamer had a starting place at Sheffield.
Sheffield United has only collected 1 point so far and remains 3 points behind Burnley, which is penultimate. Burnley, with Belgian coach Vincent Kompany, lost 2-1 to Bournemouth. Justin Kluivert again did not play for Bournemouth. The former Ajax player last played in the competition at the end of September.
